There is ample evidence that students in low-income areas generally do not have access to the quality of education that will allow them to succeed in later academic pursuits. Communities tired of low academic achievements have turned to charter schools, public schools that have been approved to design their own curriculum outside of the traditional local school district model, as alternative education pathways for their children. Evidence suggests that students attending charter schools perform better than their peers attending public schools, potentially reducing the attainment gap between poor and non-poor students.

The CIP will support charter schools by investing up to 60% of its assets in such educational facilities. Our support of charter schools can help lower-income students attain quality education that better positions them for the future.
