Community investing is the process by which socially motivated investors use their financial resources to make tangible positive social impact on low and moderate-income individuals and communities. Community investing can take many forms, but is most often accomplished through investments in real estate based projects or through direct investment in organizations such as CDFIs, that were specifically created to engage low and moderate-income communities in a variety of ways.

Community investing addresses the financial needs of low income communities by providing capital for affordable housing, small business development, and charter schools and other community facilities that serve the social needs of these communities.  While socially similar to philanthropy, community investing is so much more as it has emerged into a sound investment strategy.  These investments earn competitive returns, comparable to other investment of similar risk and term.
